Support Striking Verizon Workers

Today, Verizon workers are entering the second day of their multi-state strike. In total, 45,000 members of the Communication Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers walked off of the job after Verizon pushed unacceptable concessions and refused to budge.

It is a story we are hearing again and again – a wealthy company is demanding wage and benefit cuts, just to push its sky-high profits even higher. Unlike many people in New York, Verizon is not facing tough economic times.  The company made more than $19 billion over the last four years, but is still asking workers to accept outsourcing, cuts to retirement benefits, and fewer sick days.

The workers simply want the company to bargain in good faith with them. If we are ever able to make it out of the recession, we need companies like Verizon to respect their workforce and preserve the standard of living those jobs support.

Verizon needs to be told that their customers won’t stand for this. Please join me in supporting the workers by sending a message to Verizon today.
