Another Plaza in the Works for Kensington

Another Plaza in the Works for Kensington

Kensington Plaza (at Church Avenue and Beverley Road) has been an important addition to a neighborhood with limited public space. It’s a space that our community members take pride in, where we can meet one another, socialize, and enjoy life in NYC.

My office worked with community groups to help create Kensington Plaza in response to residents organizing for more open space. Now together with Neighborhood Plaza Partnership and Kensington Stewards, we have the opportunity to create another open space in the area together.

We’re now exploring the possibility of a second plaza in the neighborhood, this time at the unused concrete triangle at McDonald Avenue and Avenue C. Like Kensington Plaza, the area will offer another public space for the community, with moveable tables and chairs, umbrellas, and planters – a place to get coffee with friends, socialize, and enjoy the neighborhood.

NYC DOT, the Kensington Stewards, and Neighborhood Plaza Partnership will be hosting a public workshop for residents to give input on this new pedestrian public space proposal. The meeting will be a chance to offer your ideas about the overall look and feel of the plaza, including your ideas on how it could be used to benefit the community.

Avenue C Plaza Public Work ShopWednesday, April 29th, at 7:30 p.m.P.S. 179202 Avenue C(between E. 2nd and E. 3rd streets)Interpretation will be provided in Spanish & Bangla

This is an exciting opportunity to build the community together, and the public workshop is a great opportunity to share your input and get involved in the process.  A new public space like this plaza will add to civic life in Kensington and I am excited to hear your ideas and opinions at the meeting.
