Shop Local Spotlights

Check out our reviews of these great local businesses:

Oak Park Pharmacy

Oak Park Pharmacy has many things to offer including a pharmacy, non-perishable food, and house hold supplies. It still has a photocopier, one of the last stores to have one in the neighborhood, which is great for residents. Doctors still fax their prescriptions over and Oak Park’s pharmacists are known to be very speedy when filling them out.

Oak Park’s owner Mohammad Patel says he and his employees try to treat all customers like guest and makes sure all their needs are taken care of. He has been the owner of the pharmacy since 1978 and says he knows almost all of his customers by name and enjoys having a connection with the community. You cannot find this type of dedication or customer service at any chain pharmacy.

The Painted Pot

It is no surprise that the Painted Pot won Nickelodeon's Parent's Pick Awards in 2009. The Carroll Gardens pottery studio offers activities for children and adults, alike. I encourage you to stop in and paint some pottery, bead a necklace, mosaic a picture frame, and to see why so many of your neighbors recommended the Painted Pot for a Spotlight. If you still don't believe me that the Painted Pot is for grown-ups too, check out "Create and Wine" night, every other Friday from 6pm-10pm. Keep an eye out for their new location in Park Slope at 72 Seventh Avenue at Berkeley Place. It will be firing up in January 2012.

Ballard Pharmacy

Plain and simple: the customer service you'll find at Ballard Pharmacy is remarkable. The pharmacists know their customers by name and they aim to provide the best deals and products for everyone that comes through their door. This type of service and personal attention can't be found at a big chain retailer.

Music Matters

Music Matters is a small independent music shop on Seventh Avenue. But what they lack is size, they make up for in service and supply. The walls are covered from floor to ceiling in music. They make the shopping experience easy by posting a list of new releases each month on their Facebook page, where you can also ask about what they have in stock, learn about promotions, or just say hello. They even post updates from local venues and neighborhood musicians, so visiting their page (and store) is a great way to stay connected with the local music scene. Who needs Amazon.com with service like that? Stop in and pick up a loyalty card, which gets you a free CD or DVD of your choice after your 15th purchase.
