The 10th Annual Brooklyn PTA 5K Fun Run – To Benefit the Schools of Brooklyn (and beyond)

The 10th Annual Brooklyn PTA 5K Fun Run – To Benefit the Schools of Brooklyn (and beyond)

Saturday May 13th, 2017 at 10AM

The PTAs of Brooklyn’s public schools and the offices of Brooklyn City Council Members Brad Lander, Laurie Cumbo, Stephen Levin, and Carlos Menchaca, Borough President Eric Adams, and sponsoring school partner PS 107 are coming together to sponsor the 10th annual PTA 5-kilometer run/walk/stroll/toddle  in Prospect Park. The race will take  place on Saturday, May 13th at 10AM.  Number pickup and prerace activities will begin at 8:45 AM in the  Bartel-Pritchard Parking Lot. Stay-tuned for information on where numbers can be picked-up in advance.

Last year, hundreds of parents, teachers and students from over 50 Brooklyn public schools joined us for the event. It was a huge success and we raised over $16,000 to support Brooklyn’s PTAs. This event has become much more than a fundraiser.  For ten years now, the PTA 5K Fun Run has demonstrated the tremendous strength of our local public school communities.   Parents, students, and educators have turned out in droves to show what it means to build community, and work together on critical issues facing all of our public schools.

Participants pay a registration fee ($20/individual, $5 for each additional family member up to 5) and may raise additional money through sponsors.

WANT TO GET YOUR PTA INVOLVED?
Commit to being a race captain!

Recruit at least 20 participants from your school/circle of friends to register and fund-raise for the race. The more people you register, and the more you fund-raise through sponsorship, the greater the proceeds for all schools!

For schools that recruit 20 or more participants, funds will be allocated in the following way: 50% of total profits from the race will be divided amongst each participating school, 25% will be divided in proportion to the number of participants in the run from each school, and the remaining 25% will divided among the top 1/3 Title 1 schools.

WANT TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT
TO SCHOOLS IN NEED?

The PTA 5k event allocates a greater share of funds to schools with a high percentage of Free and Reduced Price Lunch students, but there’s more to be done for those schools most in need. Would your school community like to be involved? Consider raising additional funds within your school community for distribution to Title 1 schools, or consider partnering with another school to help them raise funds. Please contact us if you’d like to discuss possibilities.

The registration link at NYCRuns is coming soon. Meanwhile here is an event flyer. If you, your school, or your PTA is interested in participating, contact our outreach manager at ptarunfortheschools [at] gmail [dot] com and include Vicki Sell at vsell [at] council [dot] nyc [dot] gov.
