RSVP for #GetOrganizedBK’s “Organizing Bootcamp” on Mon. March 27th
The organizing we’ve done together in recent weeks -- here in Brooklyn, and across the country -- has been extraordinary. The town halls. Another powerful set of womens’ protests. The #NotInOurCity vigils against hate. The rally for a free press. Standing together against Islamophobia & anti-semitism. Hundreds of thousands of postcards and phone calls.
And there’s more this weekend, of course. See below for Saturday’s “die-in” on the steps of Borough Hall to protest GOP efforts to destroy the Affordable Care Act (perhaps the most important issue-fight at this moment). Or to celebrate the Ides of March with a postcard-writing event on Sunday, sponsored by our Conflicts of Interest group.
But we know this is a marathon, not a sprint. Because the darkness we are facing is powerful, too.
So for our next #GetOrganizedBK full-group meeting, we’re trying something different: an “Organizing Bootcamp” to help build the organizing skills we need for the long haul. So many of you have stepped up to take leadership at this critical moment. We want to share and build skills to keep that cycle of leadership & organizing going strong.
Monday, March 27th, 7 - 9 PM
Get Organized BK’s “Organizing Bootcamp”
Congregation Beth Elohim
Please RSVP to reserve your spot for a training session now. Due to space limitations, most of the training sessions will be capped, and we ask that you only sign up for the class you’d like to attend.
We’ll have a kick-off session in the sanctuary, with some powerful organizers. And you’ll have the chance to vote in “participatory budgeting” too (check out the ballot of PBNYC projects). So it should be a great evening.
See you on the 27th. In the interim, keep up with the resistance. At the end of the day, the best way to learn is by simply getting involved.
Upcoming Resistance Events:
Join #GetOrganizedBK for a rally and “die-in” on the Brooklyn Borough Hall steps and plaza in defense of the Affordable Care Act. The GOP’s bill to gut the ACA -- so that the wealthy can get a big tax break -- means that people will ACTUALLY die. Before that happens, join this “die-in” to convey the human impact. Tombstones will be provided, or you can bring your own. Please bring signs that highlight your ACA/Medicaid/Medicare stories.
Sunday, March 12, 2 PM at Alma Restaurant (187 Columbia Street)
The Ides of Trump Postcard Party
Join #GOBK’s Conflicts of Interest working group as they create a ton of amazing postcards to mail to the White House on the Ides of March -- focusing on the ever-growing corruption and conflicts-of-interest that mar the Trump Administration. Write one or write ten (and enjoy a few beverages while you’re at it). Some postcard materials and supplies will be provided.
The rapid response arm of Organizing Against Islamphobia and Anti-Semitism will stand in silent vigil this Sunday in response to the bomb threat to the Brooklyn Jewish Children’s Museum and the rise of anti-semitic attacks happening across the country. Bring signs that denounce hate and discrimination while staying positive with the message.
