Don’t want a world without Planned Parenthood? Join us Monday night for #GetOrganizedBK

The daily drumbeat of investigations into potential corruption, collusion, conflicts-of-interest, and obstruction of justice within the Trump Administration makes it hard to stay focused. And of course we must keep up the pressure for a real investigation … and real consequences.

But we can’t stop organizing against concrete & continuing threats -- like the threats to women’s health care and reproductive rights. GOP lawmakers (far beyond Donald Trump, but still almost entirely men, of course) are working hard to restrict women’s access to health care, and undermine their basic rights to control decisions that shape their lives.

It is hard to believe that the House of Representatives passed a “health care” bill that would decimate maternity care, defund Planned Parenthood, make contraception coverage “optional” for employers, and significantly reduce access to abortion. (And, of course, throw tens of millions of women off of health care insurance altogether.)

It is hard to believe that we are living through a moment when The Handmaid’s Tale is terrifyingly relevant.

But here we are. So it is critical that we fight back.

So please join us Monday evening at #GetOrganizedBK. Our Women’s Health and Reproductive Rights working group (WHARR) has gathered an amazing panel to talk to us, and help us figure out next steps -- in New York and nationwide.

A sneak peek of what’s in-store for Monday. Our moderator will be Letitia James, New City's Public Advocate, who has a long history of fighting for women’s rights. She’ll be joined on the panel by:

  • Susannah Pasquantonio, who helped draft the NYS Reproductive Health Act, served as Director of Women’s Issues and Health Care for NYS Senator Liz Krueger, and how serves as Chief of Staff for Assemblymember Jo Anne Simon.

  • Dr. Linda Pine, Reproductive Health Access Project’s Medical Director, as well as a family physician and abortion provider.

  • Adjoa Tetteh, a member of Planned Parenthood NYC Board of Directors & on PPNYC’s Activist Council, she’s also a reproductive health care expert, reproductive justice leader, and service leader.

Together, we’ll learn about what we can do to pass the NYS Reproductive Health Act, and to push back against the Trump/GOP assault on women.

After the panel, the #GOBK Working Groups will meet to plan next actions, and bystander intervention training will be available as well.

If you need a little inspiration, Joss Whedon’s video imagining a world without Planned Parenthood (or access to care), was a stark reminder of the work we need to do to make sure we continue to protect women’s health and rights.

Sadly, we know too well what that world looks liked: In 2011, Texas voted to cut Planned Parenthood from various women’s health programs, and now the maternal death rate there is higher than anywhere else in the developed world.

Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen here … or anywhere else.

See you Monday night,
