Your neighbors need you!
Thanks to everyone who helped a neighbor in yesterday’s snow & ice storm. As always, it was great to see so many people offer assistance to neighbors who needed a little help clearing their sidewalk -- plenty who just do it as a matter of course, and some who signed up on my website (like Danny and Alex, two young brothers who tagged team shoveling for several of their neighbors in Windsor Terrace around Terrace and Sherman).
In this community, we know we do better when neighbors look out for each other.
That’s the idea of participatory budgeting too. The PBNYC operation is fueled by volunteers. Your neighbors have brainstormed ideas, developed projects to improve our neighborhood, and put together a great 2017 ballot.
Now, it’s time to get out the vote! PBNYC Vote Week is March 27th to April 2nd.
And for that, we need you.
So here’s our next call to action. Can you please help us: gather votes at:
- Gather votes at the #GetOrganizedBK event on Mon 3/27
- Volunteer at the Project Expo on Wed 3/29
- Run a “pop-up” poll site during the week
- Staff a PBNYC poll-site (on Sat April 1st or Sun April 2nd)
Even if you’re new to PBNYC, volunteering can be a great way to connect with your community and get to know some of your neighbors through the process.
From shoveling a neighbor’s sidewalk to volunteering at a neighborhood soup kitchen or tutoring program, from the incredible activism of #GetOrganizedBK to the “revolutionary civics in action” of participatory budgeting -- your civic activism is what makes this community a special place.
We’ll be providing more information on how to vote in the coming days.
For now, it would mean a lot of you could sign up to help out for a few hours during PBNYC Vote Week.
Thank you for your time.
