Your neighbors need you!

Thanks to everyone who helped a neighbor in yesterday’s snow & ice storm. As always, it was great to see so many people offer assistance to neighbors who needed a little help clearing their sidewalk -- plenty who just do it as a matter of course, and some who signed up on my website (like Danny and Alex, two young brothers who tagged team shoveling for several of their neighbors in Windsor Terrace around Terrace and Sherman).

Blizzard Advisory: What You Need to Know

It looks like Winter isn’t ready to let go of us yet. A major winter storm is heading our way -- a final parting shot from the season as we head into Spring. Late tonight until tomorrow evening will see about 16-20 inches of snow with worst case scenarios seeing up to 24 inches. Plus, strong gusts of wind.

City Councilmember Brad Lander’s Statement on Governor Cuomo’s Appointment of the Statewide Plastic Bag Task Force

Since February 15th – when the New York State Legislature and Governor Cuomo nullified NYC’s “Bring Your Own Bag” law – residents of NYC have sent approximately 750 million plastic bags to landfills.  By the end of the year, it will be another 7 billion.

But here in NYC, March also brings another great set of choices:  Participatory Budgeting (PBNYC) Vote Week. The time of year when New Yorkers gather together for “revolutionary civics in action” and vote to fund community projects, submitted by their neighbors, designed to improve our neighborhood public schools, parks, libraries, and more. Students, Teachers & City Council Members Rally for Air-Conditioning in All NYC Public School Classrooms

New #TooHotToLearn report reveals 10,000 classrooms without air-conditioning, as temperatures rise. But the NYC School Construction Authority reports zero A/C installations in progress. New coalition demands a five-year plan for A/C in all schools.     

CITY HALL - NYC public school students, teachers, administrators, and City Council Members across all five boroughs gathered on the steps of City Hall to rally for NYC air-conditioning in all NYC public school classrooms. The rally took place the afternoon prior to the Council’s budget hearing with the NYC School Construction Authority (SCA) and Department of Education (DOE).
